I have imported all the old Westwood Studios Tactics&Strategies Forum posts! I was able to retain the origional poster names (by spoofing them with "guest" posts) and dates.
You have no idea how hard this was, I hope everyone appreciates it It took me literally days to write and debug the importer (in PERL), and Crimson had to actually hack the phpBB software to allow us to import old posts. Many thanks to Crimson for helping me fumble my way through learning basics of PHP and SQL.
Please note that the imported posts are NOT YET SEARCHABLE. We have to rebuild the searchwords index, and it is a very cpu, database, and time-intensive process best done later tonight when the web/sql server is off-peak.
Also note that in the main forum view, the imported posts will show "0" replies. Fear not, for when you click on them the posts and replies are there, and once clicked on the forum software automatically fixes the replies field.
I have also noticed that for unknown reasons (probably the difference between time zones) that some threads have the posts in reverse order. So if the first post in the thread isn't by the topic author, thats probably why. So for these few oddly imported threads just scroll to the bottom and read from there up Sorry I couldn't do the import 100% perfect, but it was pretty much a miracle that we even got the data and that I was able to munge it from the format it was in.
