The same used to happen on my desktop - took about 2 weeks of constant run time (with a few restarts) to fix it.
Of course, my other computer is an AMD Athlon 2200+ XP 1.7GHz w/ 512MB DDR.
I never really found what fixed it, could've just been my luck Sad

Well, you can download the quick-load versions of all the standard MP maps. They are floating around on the internet somewhere. As far as hardware goes, you can upgrade to a 10,000 rpm HD for quicker load times, although many may seem that as unnecessary (including me) for games like Renegade.

-edit-

sorry, I didn't see that you mentioned you already have the fixed maps

If your Hard Drive is filled up then that's probably why. Other than that you should load in under three seconds.

You'll have to play a few maps or so to get loading times nice and fast. This is to do with the cache I believe.

This helped me a bit:

I defragmented my drive and I let my defragment program put the data/ directory of Renegade at the beginning of the harddrive.

(If you put a file or dir at the beginning of a directory,, your pc will be able to access those files faster)

Just to contribute to the cause, I am having the same problem and I have tried everything, I just gave up.

AthlonXP 2400+
1024MB PC333 2400 DDR RAM

My hard drive has plenty of free space, and it is defragged nightly. I have the fast load maps, and the no CD crack. When loading, the bar moves very quickly then freezes on about 1/4 complete for around 10 seconds, then it goes to 7/8 done and freezes there for another 5 seconds. The total load time is about 20 seconds.

Recently, I gave RenAlert another try and immediately one of the things I noticed is that the maps load incredibly fast. Probably about 5 seconds or so total, which is 1/4 the time Renegade takes.

It was a long time ago that I was trying to solve this, but if I remember correctly by disconnecting my second CD-ROM drive, it cut the load times in half. But I assume the no-CD crack should fix this, correct me if I am wrong.

I would be very curious to know, however, if there is a technique used to make the RenAlert maps load so quickly, and if so can it be applied to normal Renegade maps?

Have you tried to put the data directory at the beginning of your harddrive?

This is how it is for me without the quickload maps. It only does it the first time I load a map. After that, they load almost instantly.

I have the quick-load maps, and they only noticeablely help by cutting about 5 seconds off the load time after the first 3 or 4 maps.

For some reason Most WW games hate having 2 optical drives, I had problems with slow loading on everything from RA2 to renegade. My friend who has a lesser computer by far always seemed to load faster, come to figure out after i unplugged my dvd-writer with one drive in it loaded faster. Even more so with the fixed WW maps. I Made Images of my games and with a virtual cd program cut load times in half.

I have a 3.0ghz, 512ddr and i load in about 2 seconds, excluding the first load. It should only take one first load with xp. My old win 98 took about 4 games to get up to its fastest ( 8 seconds). Defrag, clean up some stuff around your computer. Oh btw I have a 160gb @ 7200rpm which is about 50gb full.

Snipesimo, the funny thing is, I have less memory than you and RenAlert loads INSTANTLY (less than even a half a second). What's even funnier is when I used to have my crappy computer and only had 512mb SDRAM and a 500Mhz CPU, the levels in Renegade would load instantly like RenAlert. Right now, in Renegade the levels load in about 5 seconds for me, and the first time is always the longest.

Renegade's loading system is still mysterious.
