WHat lower resolutions do is make the dot in the middle of the reticle bigger.

Thus, it makes aiming easier.

I can see how lower resolutions may make it easier, but as for this magnify tool, it's pretty much worthless because as j_ball says - "you'd still have the same margin for error".
