Ok, like so many others, I've been anxiously awaiting each and every installment of Kirby’s story with eager anticipation and this has inspired me to go back and play the game that started it all. One problem though, whenever I run the setup (C&C Windows 95 is the version I’m using) I get an error that says:
Setup Warning
Windows 5.1 is currently running. This version of Command Conquer is a
Windows 95 only product.
Now, I’ve downloaded the CCGOLDXPPATCH.ZIP from the ftp site (though I’m not even sure if it will work with my version), but if I can’t get it to install then the patch is useless anyway. I know there is a way to make it work on XP because I’ve done it using a method posted on the old forums, but I can’t recall the method and I don’t know what else to try. If anyone knows how to make this work please let me know and your life will be richly rewarded.

Right click on the setup exe file and click properties, then click the "compatibility" tab and check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "windows 95" from the drop-down.

Thanks. I knew you could do that with a file on your hardrive, but I didn't realize that you could do that with a file on a CD before running it. Up and running now and I had forgotten just how much fun the original is!
