Yeah, you should definitely start paying attention to them. They make good antipersonnel or antitank weapons, and are great for tunnel defense. The only caveat is to remember that you can only have so many mines on the field at once, so don't throw 25 in your tunnel all in one place. 6 or 7 will be enough to cover any entrance. It's actually more effective to throw them outside the tunnel in your base, where intruders will have to walk if they want to get anywhere. That way, your automated defenses can shoot at them while they're trying to disarm the mines.
