As far as i can see there arnt ANY advantages except u get to give them money if u like that sort of thing or u could watch adverts.
And i think (not 100\% sure) there browser stays on behind the game eating up your bandwidth.

STEER CLEAR OF GAMESPY

Dont even waste your mouse life clicking there stupid in game button.

Anyone got any nice experiences with gamespy(ware).

I tried WOL this weekend and of course it was completely packed so I tried Game Spy. Game Spy wasn't that bad the other day and it didn't cost me a dime...Surprisingly smooth, no lag when I was playing....

What can be wrong with that? Nothing it's functional, and it works....

Are you people stupid?? WOL is so laggy compared to Gamespy. Every game i play has no lag at all - even with 25 - 30 people.

GAMESPY RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So you guys are using the trial version? It says there's a $20 fee. It would be worth it for lag free/moron free gameplay.

The only main difference between free and registered version is that in reg version you dont get the annoyinh adverts pop up.

But you can play unregisted without paying for as lond as you like.

(yeah not as many nOObs in Gamespy)

Trial version?, the message I received stated "do you want to get rid of the pop-ups? Then a one time fee of $20 can be spent to remove the pop-ups" or something like that....It's never requested funding of any sort....

Thats right - just pay to have a few more options like remove pop-ups.

But still alot better than WOL (No offence - great games poor servers)

The lag part is true. But, I do not agree with "GAMESPY RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ".
Also, GS does NOT eat up bandwidth becuase when you go into a game it goes into "hibernate" mode (I found this out when I ALT+TABed out of a game. I clicked on the button on my taskbar and it said that it was in hibernate mode). I also wouldn't spend $20 just to get rid of some ads. Just as long as it is free, I don't mind.

BTW: If you think my signature is too long, plz email me at itanium65074@hotmail.com .
Thank you!

The only benefits for playing on WOL is for prizes, and I don't have the motivation to sit in front of my computer non-stop for a week to win a GF3 Ti200, considering I already have one, and also an original GF3 and a GF4 Ti4600, in addition to two GF2 GTSes.

Anyone who has seen me play knows I'm a ****ed good player on either side, and I find playing on GS, where there's no real "points, points, points!" motivation for the ladder to provide a much more enjoyable gaming experience. The only thing I regret is not getting to see my total stats anymore for purely informational purposes.

What I like about WOL is that it has a buddy list, options to apge people in game, and the ranking is fun to use for comparison. But they really do have problems with lack of servers, I don't understand how it works, but if everyone used WOL then I'd imagine all the Gamespy servers would join? WOL and then there'd be no shortage...

WOL is fine when you can access it, the alternative is Game Spy. The end result is you can usually get on Game Spy, hence you can play the game. The goal here is to play on either one if possible....

Gamespy is ok, I never got any ads yet, I run Norton Security, w\ad block? I thought why pay 20$ unless it's for a goodwill jesture?
I play WOL 90\% because of the cool points\rankings, it's cool to look @ where your shots are landing, like head, torso, etc, and then checking your ranking, I rarely play Non Laggered games.
Guys, try WOL european servers, their pings are like 135 but seem to be about same performance as USA servers. Just go into "My Information" to change.

Or host your own game, I did it and was surprised at my great performance," I ADSL 900mhz, Geforce 2, Set to max of 6 players.
I just had to wait 5 mins, when 1 joined others quickly filled it up.

lol.. it's ok lenchmob, i understand. hey maybe we should start a clan for us crappy players that enjoy playing and really want to have some teamwork. if nothing else, we'll be in demand by the other clans to raise their rating. and man will we be able to flame them on the boards if we ever win!! stupid nOOb's!! lol...

Funny, I guess with everyone talking about lag, I spelled Laddered as Laggered.

I bought JK2 tonight but don't want to open it as I'm afraid I'll end up playing it rather than my love Renegade.

Well, I tried GS, and it failed miserably. I installed the frigging thing and it doesn't work. Since I've been able to get games on WOL with a little effort, I'll just keep playing WOL until I'm desparate enough to mess with getting GS to work.

Thanks for the input guys!
