On almost any map ive done this, and as long as your smart enough to run away when you see your in trouble BEFORE its too late you wont lose everything without getting anything
Heres what i do:

I buy a stealth tank, stealth black hand, and a nuke.

I drive into the enemy base when i see a safe opening through the gdi tanks

Once in the base if my vehicle is spotted by too many people i leave it at the exit of the nearest building (not doorway, those are mined, i mean the nearest building edge that provides safety from the agt) and run to safety

I always wait a while before setting the nuke, if you just set it once your safe everyones gonna know which building to check - i always see if i can get to a new building first or i just wait till things calm down, then i set the c4 then i promptly set the nuke on top of it (or the other way around)

I then proceed to stand near it and defend it, if i see an engy coming i move overtop of it, if its just a trooper i wait till they turn there ugly head and i shoot it off for them.

The c4 helps A LOT because if its set ON the beacon it makes it harder for them to find the beacon to disarm, if you set it BEFORE you set the beacon it will blow up half way through and kill an engie or two if you died defending it

Like i said, hasnt failed me yet

A cheaper alternative is to take an APC with a nuke.. place the nuke.. get back in and and sit on it. An APC can usually take enough damage until it's too late for them to disarm it. Plus the machine gun is more effective at aiming for close range than the stealth's missles. It hasn't failed yet, assuming I can get to the building with the APC. Works great on the back side of the GDI barracks on the city map.

While on the subject.. if you are in a vehicle and see a teammate place a beacon.. you might want to go assist with defending it. The situation doesn't come up very often, but it assures a successful beacon most of the time.

The reason i take a stealth is for the maps where gdi has pushed out to far and there is no way an apc will make it to the gdi base, not to mention with a stealth - as long as there is no agt you will be completely unseen untill you exit it - free to cause havoc in the base once youve done your damage

Whats worse than people not helping defend a nuke is the people who dont even defend theirs in the first place !!? Why spend all that money on a nuke and not insure your investment?

I find that a stealth soldier can also be good in other ways. I plant beacons in a spot that I can keep a good distance from it and still beable to shoot anyone that attempts to disarm it. Then when they attempt to disarm it I just get headshots of them. It works as long as a tank or really good class comes after me.

oh, on hourglass once. We had taken out the AGT with a flame rush, one guy was shouting FLAME RUSH THEM over and over, yet it never worked cause they had like 5 mammies. I actually found that steaths are rather decent in this situation. There were like 4 at the time I was rushing alone, 2 on the left side of the AGT, one behind it and on to the right. Well, I didn't see any way to get into it until I saw the harvestor, it got in the way of the one on the right and push it back, which gave me my way to get in. only thing I had to worry about was a lone havok that was infront of the harvestor, I just ran that fool over and proceeded in, I was caught though. if I was a stealth soldier I would have done better because I tried to enter a mined building as tech and sadly, didn't make it.

You could've disarmed the mines.
