I say the sniper rifle that deadye or black hand sniper has is the best for taking out infantry but a personal ion cannon or rail gun to take out tanks and I know it is really a gun but c4 for taking out buildings:) ...

Best gun: Rail gun
Can kill tanks and infantry really quick and it has quite a good range. The only prob is that it can only fire once then u have to reload.

I have never heard a personal icon cannon. Which character has that gun and does it shoot icons? Joking
Personally I perfer Shotgun on taking out SBH.
I took out of SBH using it. Most likely when they are waiting for a chance to plant nuke or hijack a tank. I run pass them so they think that I did not spot them then turn 180 degrees and aim for the head. One shot one kill. The TFR is also good. Once I saw two SBH fleeing away from where they are hiding as they saw me approaching them. The other good ones are LCG LR and Volt Auto.

Really there is not "best" gun. One of the reasons I love renegade so much is the nice balance of weapons and units.
Every weapon/unit has a counter weapon/unit but my favourite weapon is the sniper rifle (not ramjet), most useful is probably raveshaw because you can own tanks and infantry alike (except snipers at long range).
But then again the Laser Chain Gun can rip apart tanks and infantry pretty good too.

My record:
One Shotgun,
Two Mobius's,
Two Shots,
Two Kills.
(And they probably had beacons considering we were getting our asses handed to us... )
But personally you can't replace the Ramjet Rifle... Snipers control the flow of the game, rather you realize it or not.
Well, I take that back, in games with about 40 people snipers control the game. Anything less than that just get a flame tank or a tech... ![[Cool]](cool.gif)

Pistol is the best gun !
It seems to me the pistol is better for sneak up head shots than the auto riffle - I have better success with it neways.
Recently I've been using tier 1 (1st level "special" infi through barraks/HON) and have had GREAT success killing 1000 credits chars.
Bottom line - if there is a tunnel you are owned by free/hella cheap infi.

Just about every gun in the game can get you kills if you know what you are doing. For someone starting out, I'd recommend the laser chain gun. Can hurt both infantry and vehicles well. Only draw back: over all accuracy is not that great compare to a sniper rifle or something, and it chews through ammo like a mofo. For base defense though, 2 or 3 of those laser chain gunners can annihilate just about any supported tank in a flash, and can mow down infantry well too.

if you are close to another player of the other team, it's the best to take the pistol, it is only 3 shots in the head, or 5 shots on the buddy to kill someone ( with an automatic rifle it takes the whole magazine to take out someone )

On "certain" servers, with adequate numbers on both sides and lots of distractions, you can "snipe" with a rocket launcher. It's a vaguely devastating weapon against infantry...and if you get hit up, merely switch to the pistol if you have good pistol skills.
